Red Raspberry is known in naturopathic circles as a woman’s herb since it primarily benefits women and conditions particular to them. While most people are familiar with the red fruit, the leaves are often used for their properties. Raspberries are a good source for the minerals calcium, iron, and magnesium.

For centuries women have used raspberries for a variety of conditions including regulating menstrual cycles and decreasing heavy menstrual flows. It is perhaps most commonly used in conjunction with pregnancy.

The medical journal Lancet published a study in 1941 confirming raspberry’s application to pregnancy. A chemical compound was found which helped relax the uterus. Raspberry has been used throughout pregnancy. Some individuals find it helpful to offset morning sickness. It is also believed to help prevent miscarriage, strengthen the uterus, regulate contractions, and relax the uterus during labor.
