Oregano Oil

Oregano (origanum vulgare) is grown abundantly in Mediterranean countries and was once used by ancient Greek physicians to heal wounds, alleviate headaches, and even combat some poisons. Medical studies have now discovered even more uses for this versatile spice, including anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-parasitic, anti-fungal, and antiseptic properties. Diluted oregano oil can be applied to a toothache for pain relief. Some people even use oregano oil for anti-rheumatic properties.

Scientific study has proven the healing powers of high-grade oregano oil. Research has shown that oregano oil can be used to combat and even destroy many strains of bacteria, fungi, and even parasites. A 2000 study in the Journal of Applied Microbiology identified 25 different kinds of bacteria battled by oregano oil, and a study conducted in 2001 at the University of Tennessee proved that oregano oil contains anti-bacterial properties. In 1998, the International Journal of Food Microbiology featured a study that revealed the potency of oregano oil in dealing with 9 different types of fungi.

Many competitors’ products that claim to contain oregano oil really are made up of marjoram or thyme oil, which does not possess the same potent qualities as oregano oil.
