Bilberries come from a low-growing shrub of the Ericaceae Vaccinium family. Bilberry flavonoids support and protect vision by enhancing antioxidant status in the eye and reducing capillary permeability and fragility. It acts as an antihistamine and has potential for the treatment of pigmentary retinitis.
Preliminary evidence suggests that bilberries may have a reversing effect on certain eye disorders, e.g., macular degeneration. Bilberries, which also contain magnesium stearate, are also associated with night vision improvement.
