Hyaluronic Acid 

Hyaluronic acid, or hyaluronan, is found throughout the body in connective tissue like cartilage and skin and in nerve tissues. Each day one-third of the body’s hyaluronic acid is renewed. Hyaluronic acid is a major component of synovial fluid. While this fluid is found in the eyes and skin, its effects may be most noticeable in the joints. Hyaluronic acid improves synovial fluid’s lubrication ability.

In cartilage hyaluronic acid surrounds each cell. It combines with other elements which together absorb water making the cartilage more resistant to compression. Osteoarthritis causes the hyaluronic acid in cartilage to change and leads to cartilage deterioration.

Hyaluronic acid supplements show promise in preliminary research of reversing or slowing problems caused by dropping levels.
