I dont think as fast as I use to or remember things as well. I am only 45 and I want to grow to a good old age with a clear mind and healthy body. Thank You Tammy

One of the best places to start when considering supplements for depression is with essential fatty acids.  These important fats must be obtained from our diet and play a crucial role in the functioning of the brain and neurological system.

Of particular importance is the Omega 3 family of fatty acids, particularly those that arise from fish.  The fatty acids found in fish are extremely easy for the body to utilize, in comparison with the omega 3's found in flax oil.  DHA is a major component of fish oil and has been shown to have a very strong affinity for the brain and neurological system.  This is why most baby formulas now have DHA in them to support the proper growth of a developing mind.

In adults, DHA and fish oil can play a supportive role in maintaining optimal brain function.  A high quality fish oil, taken in a dose ranging from 3000mg-5000mg per day will provide excellent support for the neurological system.  It is best taken with a meal to enhance absorption.

Due to the important role of fish oil for the brain, you may also find that in addition to helping with your depression, it also helps your mental focus and clarity.

St. John's Wort has shown promising effects for mild to moderate depression but should be used with caution for those people already on an anti-depressant.  If you are interested in trying this, discuss it with your doctor first.

In addition, a good quality multi-vitamin is also important to ensure you are getting adequate levels of other important nutrients and minerals.
