Osteoarthritis
I have Osteoarthritis and would like a natural way to deal with the pain and inflammation. What can you recommend?
What you need to focus on is natural products that help to
reduce inflammation in the body. Some of the best things to do this are
Omega 3 fatty acids. The compounds found in omega 3 products like fish
oil promote the production of prostaglandins and eicosanoids (signaling agents
in the body) that help to reduce inflammation.
Herbs such as Turmeric, Boswellia, Cats claw and Ginger are known to arrest
pathways in the body that promote inflammation.
Glucosamine, MSM and chondroitin are natural products that provide nutrients
necessary for the body to build the collagen in your joint spaces. If collagen
growth can be supported, the wear and tear on your joints that is causing the
pain can be reduced. It is not always an effective tool for everyone, but
those who are responders can really have a significant amount of improvement
and reduction of pain. They are reasonably priced and carry very little
of risk of side effects so it is often worth a try.
Diet can also be a significant factor in promoting inflammation and worsening
pain. Foods high in sugar can promote inflammation in addition to alcohol
and cigarettes. Eating a diet centered on fresh fruits and vegetables,
lean meats (chicken, turkey and especially fish) and whole grains can make a
huge impact on inflammation and pain.
