Chromium Picolinate

Chromium is an essential mineral available in a number of formulas. Chromium picolinate is one of the more easily absorbed forms. While it is found throughout the body in small concentrations, it is key to the effective functioning of insulin. Chromium occurs naturally in a variety of foods but as many as 90% of Americans consume diets low in chromium.

In 1957 researchers discovered a compound they labeled “Glucose Tolerance Factor” or GTF. Chromium was identified as the active ingredient of GTF. Chromium may help effectively counteract insulin resistance. Insulin resistance occurs when the body fails to respond properly to insulin. Insulin brings glucose from the bloodstream to the cells for energy. If the body does not produce enough insulin, glucose builds up within the blood stream and eventually results in Type 2 diabetes.
