Chromium

Chromium is a mineral found in a variety of foods and supplements. It is essential to human health. Researchers estimate that, while chromium deficiency is rare, the mineral is found in below optimal levels in nearly 90% of Americans. Low levels can lead to increased blood sugar, triglycerides, and overall cholesterol levels. Chromium enhances the effects of insulin and helps get glucose from the blood stream into the cells for energy. Chromium has been used effectively to counteract insulin sensitivity, a condition that occurs when the body does not respond properly to the insulin it produces. Left untreated insulin resistance leads to a buildup of glucose levels in the blood and ultimately Type 2 diabetes. Chromium is a central component to the Glucose Tolerance Factor or GTF. GTF increases the effectiveness of insulin. Insulin “energized” by chromium increases by twenty times the amount of blood sugar available for energy production.

Not all chromium supplements are equivalent in their composition. Only a supplement labeled “GTF Chromium” is designed and fully capable of improving insulin effectiveness. GTF Chromium is bound to niacin and is biologically active. Vitabase Chromium uses ChromeMate®, a patented form of niacin-bound chromium and is classified as a GTF Chromium. In studies, ChromeMate® was eighteen times more potent than other niacin-bound chromium tested.
