Friendly Bacteria for Digestive Health

When a baby is born his digestive track is sterile but by the first birthday the digestive track has all the natural gut flora (bacteria) of an adult. The flora provides a number of benefits including fermenting undigested food, preventing harmful species of bacteria from flourishing, and producing vitamins like Biotin and Vitamin K.

Normally the amount of flora stays relatively stable but may be affected by stress, medication (like antibiotics), diet, excess alcohol, or environmental conditions. Probiotics seek to restore the lost balance.

Acidophilus with Goat’s Milk contains one species of probiotics called Lactobacillus Acidophilus. L. Acidophilus breaks down nutrients and in the process produces lactic acid, hydrogen peroxide, and other products which make the environment hostile to undesirable organisms. L. Acidophilus helps the body produce niacin, folic acid and Vitamin B6.

Research is still identifying all the possible benefits and applications for L. Acidophilus and probiotics. A number of applications have already been identified including improving gastrointestinal function. This is particularly true when considering the diarrhea caused by antibiotics killing off beneficial bacteria. Probiotics may also help boost the immune system, lower the frequency of vaginal yeast infections, and may decrease cholesterol levels.
